Advanced Class This class is offered in the 6 pm slot on the first Friday of every month. For every student 4th kyu and above, you are expected to attend this class as often as you are able. Here, you'll be challenged to maintain zanshin, strengthen your ukemi, and increase your technical skill.
Zazen: It is our intent with this class to explore in greater detail all of the traditional training forms of Rinzai Zen inherited from our lineage. The class will focus on seated and walking meditation (zazen and kinhin), Zen exercises to improve meditation posture, breathing exercises to activate the hara (center of energetic strength located in the lower abdomen), and Zen calligraphy (hitsuzendo). Other practices such as chanting, tea ceremony, hojo (sword training), and meditation through manual labor and meals will also be explored from time to time.
